Strengthening Tasmania’s disability workforce system

Tasmania’s disability workforce system has been strengthened with the signing of the latest Industry Skills Compact.

The Industry Skills Compact, signed between the National Disability Services (NDS) and the Tasmanian Government, signifies a strong partnership focussed on securing the future of the disability sector through workforce development, skills and training.

Minister for Skills and Training, Felix Ellis, said supporting a stronger pathway to jobs and skills for all Tasmanians is a key part of this Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“Members of our disability sector play an invaluable role in our community, working tirelessly to keep Tasmanians supported, connected and healthy,” Minister Ellis said.

“The sector’s commitment to the Compact shows the industry is intent on investing in its own future, while working alongside government to create a clear path for growth.

“The Industry Skills Compact is a commitment to deliver a sustainable and highly skilled disability workforce in Tasmania, while building on the great work the sector is already doing.”

Minister for Disability Services, Jo Palmer, said the Tasmanian Government is committed to helping develop stronger communities for all Tasmanians.

“The recent Disability Royal Commission, the NDIS Review and the Tasmanian Commission of Inquiry have highlighted the need for a strengthened workforce in the disability services sector, and through this partnership that’s what we’re committed to delivering,” Minister Palmer said.

The Industry Skills Compact partnership will focus on implementing recommendations to strengthen impacts of the workforce while ensuring better outcomes for people with disability.
