Shaping how Government can support our carers

Tasmanians who care for their loved ones are being sought to provide advice to the Tasmanian Government as it maps out a path which ensures carers are supported well into the future.

Minister for Community Services, Roger Jaensch, today announced that expressions of interest are now open for membership of the Minister’s Carer Advisory Council.

“The Advisory Council plays a key role in monitoring the implementation of the Tasmanian Carer Action Plan 2021-2025 and will contribute to the development of the next Tasmanian Carer Action Plan,” Minister Jaensch said.

“Carers play a vital role and make a significant contribution to the health, wellbeing and security of family members and friends who need support and assistance in Tasmania.

“Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, carers can be confident this Government has their back.”

The Council is seeking two carers who will provide advice, information and insights about issues affecting carers, based on their own lived experience. This will assist in the development and delivery of informed, effective and evidence-based policy, programs and projects to support and recognise unpaid carers.

Carers with a range of backgrounds, skills and experience are encouraged to apply.

A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has disability, mental ill health, a chronic or life-limiting condition, alcohol, or other drug dependence, who is frail or aged, or is a child (if the person is an informal kinship carer of the child).
